How to last in Lighting – 2014 Anniversaries!

With the pace at which technology, design and personal tastes change, one might consider lighting as a truly “on and off” industry. For two manufacturers, however, 2014 marks anniversaries that attest not only to each brand’s longevity but also to their commitment to uncompromising quality, unparalleled performance and unique, outstanding design. Additionally, each brand ensures it ships only the best possible fixtures by maintaining almost all of their operations inside a single facility!

Hubbardton Forge

Founded in 1974 by two University of Vermont sculpting classmates, Hubbardton Forge exemplifies what it means to be “Made in America.” Perhaps a better tagline might be, “Handcrafted in Vermont.” Every detail of every Hubbardton Forge piece progresses through a meticulous production process to ensure that only perfect fixtures leave their shipping door. Moreover, each step in the process happens under the roof of a single facility in Hubbardton, Vermont: from making the tools that form fixtures to shaping steel when it reaches a precise temperature to final assembly, inspection and packing.

A visit to the Hubbardton Forge facility demonstrates the pride of craftsmanship inside each member of the brand’s team. An installation of a Hubbardton Forge fixture demonstrates how that pride translates into lighting fixtures of substance and timeless beauty.

To honor their 40th Anniversary, Hubbardton Forge will be striking a unique Maker’s Mark on select pieces going forward. Over the centuries craftsmen have affirmed their creative reputations by striking a mark on their work as a means to guarantee authenticity and quality.

Hubbardton Forge CEO Bob Dillon could not be more proud of the entire team. “Our 40th year is a celebration of design excellence, environmental stewardship, and the power of American craftsmanship—the evolution continues,” he affirms. “We would like to thank our partners who help us bring our work to those consumers who care deeply about the quality of the things they bring into their homes and places of work.”

Brand van Egmond

25 years ago, Brand van Egmond was founded by two independent artists, William Brand and Annet van Egmond. The very first lighting sculptures were created in an improvised workspace inside the house of Annet’s parents. Today the brand garners attention worldwide, attracting clients ranging from Royals to Rappers, Home designers to Homeowners.

Like its brand counterpart above, every Brand van Egmond object is handmade and unique, crafted with the greatest attention to detail. Infused into each piece is an endless love of design and a passion for beauty and hospitality, articulated through distinctive materials and processes.

Both Annet and William are extremely proud of what the brand has become, yet they still remain connected to where they started. “I still recall vividly working on our first lighting sculptures in my parents’ garage as students,” details Annet. “They were very supportive; fortunately they could also see some of the fruits of our work.” William continues, “We actually became lighting producers, rather than just designers by chance. Twenty-five years ago after graduating as artists, nobody wanted to produce our designs! We had to do this ourselves, and we now find ourselves with a company operating in over 60 countries.”
