Design by Decade 1910's

This is the second installment of our Design by Decade series. Previously, we introduced vintage lighting styles from the 1900s. Here, we take a look at the evolution of lighting into the 1910s. During the 1910s the use of electricity became far more commonplace in homes throughout America, and the introduction of the tungsten bulb made electricity a financially viable option for more households. Most fixtures were brass with (typically frosted) glass shades, globes, or bowls.

by Stone Lighting

This ball-shaped pendant hung from a chain would have been right at home in the 1910s. Although glass fixtures from the era were typically frosted, rather than clear, the fixture’s retro Edison bulb lends it an air of vintage authenticity.
