    About Alberto Meda

Alberto Meda was born in Tremezzina (Como) in 1945. In 1969, he became the Master in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico of Milan. He then moved on to become the technical manager of Kartell, in charge of the development of projects of furniture and plastic laboratory equipments.

Alberto Meda came to design from engineering, bringing with him a pragmatic mind, and an attention to details in materials and production process. This applied-science background has shaped Meda’s recognizable stamp of elegant simplicity, designs that are modern in form and organic in feel. It was this individual sophistication that caught the eye of Rolf Fehlbaum, the chairman of the Swiss manufacturer Vitra, who commissioned the Italian engineer to design a chair some 20 years ago. Thus began a collaboration that continues to this day, resulting in some of the most memorable seating pieces up to and including the MedaPro and the newest design, the MedaPal.

Since 1979, he has worked as a freelance industrial designer for various companies: Alfa Romeo Auto, Alias, Alessi, Arabia-Finland, Cinelli, Colombo design, Brevetti Gaggia, JcDecaux, Ideal Standard, Luceplan, Legrand, Mandarina Duck, Omron Japan, Philips, Olivetti, Vitra, etc.

    Brand Logo

Luceplan was set up with the object of creating and producing interior and exterior lighting and to enhance the quality of living. Energy saving is therefore a top priority and cannot be confined to the ratio of lighting to energy consumption: it must embrace the environmental compatibility of our whole operation from choice of materials to the manufacturing process, from product durability to product maintenance. Luceplan believes if an light fixture is to last, it needs to be beautiful as well as technologically sound. But a long-lasting product also offers better environmental compatibility and it outlives fashions.
