About Lee Broom
The great contemporary lighting designers have all taken different paths during their careers, but none probably took the same route as Lee Broom who now reigns supreme one of UK's hottest young voices in the world of interior design. Broom began as an actor, studying drama at a theater school for much of his formative years.
When he finally did trade the stage for a studio, it was to design fashion and not the lighting fixtures and furniture pieces he became famous for. Along the way, Broom started taking on some small interior design projects as a side gig for extra cash. It wasn't long before he was scoring commissions designing bars and restaurants, and by 2007 the Lee Broom label was born with his first collection Neo-Neon.' Two new collections have launched every year since, always met with international acclaim.
While Broom may have left the theater world behind, his passion for it lives on in the fixtures he creates. Not only can Broom's pieces can be dramatic, like the Globe Table Lamp, but they can also possess a strong sense of character, like the Drunken Table Lamp, and some, like the Decanterlight Chandelier, even seem to tell a story. A room filled with fixtures designed by Lee Broom is a room sparkling with imagination with adventure illuminating every end table and whimsy brightening every corner.
Today, Lee Broom has a host of awards to his name, including 2012's British Designer of the Year and a host of honors from the British Design Awards. But the one he values most he received in 2015, the Queen's Award for Enterprise, which stands apart as the United Kingdom's highest business accolade. That same year he was also named to Wallpaper Design Awards' Top 20 Under 40 of International Designers a signal he'll still be lighting the stages of our lives for many years to come.
Described by the Financial Times as among the most respected British talents and by The Guardian as the Mark Jacobs of furniture, Broom's designs can be found all over the world and, in Chicago, you can find them on display at Lightology.
