About Vincent Darre
After having concluded his fashion studies at Studio Berot in Paris, Vincent Darre went on to working with several fashion houses, such as Yves Saint Laurent, Claude Montana, and Prada. Later, Darre worked alongside Karl Lagerfeld at Chlo and Fendi, before being appointed as the head of Moschino in 2001. From there, Vincent Darre went to Ungaro, where he believes his career in fashion eventually stalled, which was when he decided to chart a new career in the design world.
An exhibition on the Dada movement was what first sparked the French designer's interest in the decoration world. When he eventually changed the direction of his career, Vincent Darre made sure that his interiors and creations were influenced by the Dada and the Surrealist movements, which can be seen in the iconoclastic mood and details of the rooms he designs.
As for Maison Vincent Darre and its collections, we can see how they are heavily inspired by skeletons, Cubism, and the creations of Dal, and the Surrealist parlour game Exquisite Corpse'. Perhaps, the best expression of Maison Vincent Darre's style is Darre's own Parisian apartment, as well as those he designed for his close friends.
Much like what he had previously done in the fashion industry, and what he does with his own personal fashion style every day, Vincent Darre is breaking barriers and creating from the heart, from a place where he is not afraid of color and bad taste. However, and as stated by Vogue, we have to understand Darre's rule and barrier-breaking is effective because it is intentional and informed by an expansive knowledge of the history of good taste. Vincent Darre has been creating from this wondrous, barrier-free place for a very long time, which is something most designers can't afford to do, deeming him one of the most genius minds in the contemporary design world.
Vincent Darre personifies French creation, with his taste for decor, unusual harmonies or the dazzling color of his colored ranges. A master of eclecticism, he signed with Toulemonde Bochart a collection that gently revolutionized the art of pattern and composition.
