Continuing our examination of upcoming design trends of 2017, we’ve asked some of the expert lighting consultants at our Chicago Avenue showroom to share some of their favorite pieces. The results are some new and exciting explorations of geometric shapes, both basic and complex, that are becoming signature design elements in many contemporary lighting fixtures. Triangles, trapezoids, and parallelograms have never been this compelling.
Brittany Osmulski recommends this fixture.
View Brittany's ProfileThis large, modern statement piece is a unique example of geometric design, with a variety of hexagonal modules joined together to create unique shapes that can be customized any way you like. I love the flexibility this design gives you, and the signature beehive pattern will add a playful energy to any room.
Jackie Bowen recommends this fixture.
View Jackie's ProfileTraditional with its Annatto gold leaf finish but with a decidedly modern twist, the Forum Chandelier can blend with many interiors. It balances its wild, contemporary design with an old world feel that makes it the perfect addition in a home of any style.
Steven Keplinger recommends this fixture.
View Steven's ProfileThe Aerial Chandelier is a series of geometric cubes set at various angles with a silver finish. I like it because it blends the always popular sputnik style with newly popular geometric design. It provides a great amount of light, has strong visual interest and is easily adaptable to LED technology. There’s random elegance to this fixture that you wouldn’t find in a traditional sputnik or basic geometric fixture.
DeeDee Bayer recommends this fixture.
View DeeDee's ProfileAvailable in aged brass, bronze or polished nickel, the fun trapezoid shape of the Kyle makes it one of my favorite pendants. Though a strong contemporary fixture, the Kyle Pendant is softened by the inner fabric shade giving it a nice balance that would fit with any design scheme.
Ashley Rutter recommends this fixture.
View Ashley's ProfileI love that this chandelier is available in a variety of different shapes and finish options – brushed brass (pictured), oil-rubbed bronze, black nickel, polished brass or polished nickel. It provides good light and when you walk around the fixture you see different angles of the geometric pattern, almost as if the fixture transforms itself as you move. It’s interesting geometrically but still has clean lines and wouldn’t fight with other things in a space.
Jeff Wonsetler recommends this fixture.
View Jeff's ProfileI love the distinct shape of this fascinating pendant, and the gorgeous brass finish. It lights up brilliantly and features wonderfully intricate shadows, making it a truly transformative piece with a glamorous Old Hollywood feel.
Moises Malave recommends this fixture.
View Moises's ProfileI love the angles on this pendant and the way the eight-light cluster floats within in it. Finished with a pair of two elegant metals – gold and old bronze – it’s also available in two sizes which can allow it to find a home in most spaces.
Tyler Franco recommends this fixture.
View Tyler's ProfileThe complexity of this design makes this enduring stainless steel classic a distinctive addition to any home. When the only source of illumination in a dark space, the sphere mimics the interaction of molecules and calls to mind an exploding star. It’s available in three sizes, making it a dynamic piece that can find a home in a number of spaces.
Christin Schmick recommends these fixtures.
View Christin's ProfileThese captivating, geometric pieces are handmade from iron rods. I like the unusual, sophisticated take on the “industrial” feel that many are trying to achieve in their homes. The challenge of the asymmetrical shapes in the chandelier is exciting for me as a designer and balances nicely with the table lamps.
Featuring a unique, hexagonal ring of finished brass, this sleek LED fixture is a perfect modern alternative for any home, office or retail space. The design is simple and elegant, featuring geometric design in its purest form.
With a variety of options available – including chandeliers, wall lights, sconces and the pictured Fulton Multi-Light Pendant – the family of Fulton products from Hinkley Lighting is a diverse collection of unique trapezoid-inspired designs. Available in both aged zinc and bronze, these Fulton fixtures blend a thoroughly contemporary feel with an industrial edge, that will make them a perfect fit for the modern home.
Featuring vintage Edison bulbs and intersecting rectangles finished in old bronze, the Finnegan Chandelier is one of the hottest new additions to Feiss’ product line in 2017. Unafraid to make ample use of negative space, the Finnegan’s clean contemporary lines contrast with its vintage light sources for a bold industrial restoration feel.
