Gabriel Teixido was born in 1947 in Barcelona. Trained at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artsticos in Barcelona, he set up as a freelance in 1970 and since then he has not stopped working on new projects.
He defines himself as a designer who is "quite" industrial, and is not influenced by fashions. His way of working alone results in austere designs far removed from formal exhibitionism. This discretion and efficiency has made him a perennial survivor on the Spanish industrial design scene.
Teixid has a special ability to turn his designs into commercial successes: "what interests me is that my designs are useful, that people feel comfortable with them, that they are helpful". He is a designer attached to the companies he collaborates with and boasts that his designs have been profitable for them. The list of companies he has collaborated with is extensive, to mention just a few: Andreu World, Kendo Mobiliario, Enea, Oken, Joker,Grassoler, Santa&Cole, Disform, Grupo T, Interi, Aridi, Biok, Point, Levesta or Permasa.
During his long career he has won several awards such as two SIDI prizes for the Bolero chair in 1986 (Gasisa) and the Columba lamp in 1987 (Carpyen Iluminacin), Delta de Plata prizes from ADI-FAD in 1997 for the HI-FI lamp (Carpyen Iluminacin) and more recently in 1997 the Truck table from the company Aridi and the Apta chair from Andreu World were also selected as finalists in the ADI-FAD prizes.
